Eagle Avenue Bridge From Stones Levee

$400.00

Painted on August 7th, 2021, I initially planned on painting this scene from the river, but when I saw the river like pattern in the road, I realized it was a better river pattern than the river itself!. This is a staging area for giant mounds of taconite, brought in from Michigan on lake freighters. Behind me were 3 mounds, with a 4th being topped off by the freighter American Courage as I painted. Geese were walking around the hardened taconite dust road, indicating the general environmental health of the river these days. The winding, lighter stone lining you see on the left prevents the mounds from spreading out too far and into the river and by late summer the weeds between that and the river are thick and filled with grasshoppers. On the way back in the car I passed a wedding reception being held in one of the industrial warehouses lining the area.
